The Forum for Ethnic Relations celebrated its three-decade long presence by holding an event at Sir Gilles Restaurant, in Belgrade.
The FER was created at the initiative of Dr Dušan Janjić from Belgrade, Dr Zvonko Lerotić from Zagreb and Dr Rudi Rizman from Ljubljana in 1987, but could not be formally registered before the federal government (SFRY) of prime minister Ante Marković laid legal grounds for registration of non-governmental organizations. Thus, the FER was the first non-governmental organization that was founded and formally registered in the former Yugoslavia, as a network of 125 founders, some of whom were prominent experts from all parts of the former Yugoslavia, Russia and the United States.
The ceremony to commemorate the 30th anniversary was supported by friends of the FER: Dejan Đurović who was a master of ceremony, Ivan Bekjarev with his cabaret, and Spektar music band from Belgrade.
A photography exhibition “People and Cities” was organized by Avni Selmani (Prishtina) and Igor Spasov (Belgrade and Prague) in support of the FER’s work. All exhibited items are available at the “Gallery” section on the FER home page.
