Experts of the Forum for Ethnic Relations, together with the President of the Board Dušan Janjić, talked with representatives of state institutions about the situation of national minorities in Serbia. This meeting is part of the project “Integrative Minority Policy and the Status of National Minorities”.
At the meeting it was agreed that the Forum and state institutions should mutually cooperate in order to resolve many open issues in the area of national minorities. The President of the Board Dušan Janjić pointed out these issues, which primarily concern the use of the language of national minorities, political representation of minorities, and the question of how to meet the obligation related to the employment of minorities in accordance with political interests.
Representatives of the Office for Human Rights expressed their willingness to assist Forum experts by conducting an anonymous survey to help address the issue of employment of national minorities in order to get the most accurate information. It was agreed that state representatives will assist in this project by means of documents, as well as suggestions on the reports that will be prepared by Forum experts.
The aim of this Forum’s project is to offer an alternative to state authorities in resolving this very complex issue, not blocking or aggravating Serbia’s path towards the European Union.
The meeting was attended by representatives of the Ministry of State Administration and Local Self-Government, representatives of the Ombudsman of the Republic of Serbia, the Provincial Ombudsman, the Commissioner for the Protection of Equality and the Office for Human Rights.
